The save option is disabled, so if you die, you start over from the very beginning of the trial. If you dropped your items on the beach, you can now pick them up. Every item in your inventory, including armor, weapons, food-literally everything-will be taken from you except your Runes.
Once you get further on the beach, a voice will stop you.
